The 1960s and 1970s were a turbulent time for Maserati.  Not long after Citroën took control of Maserati they conceived the idea of a mid-engine car—the first for Maserati.  Tipo 117 was conceived in 1968 and designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Italdesign.  Eventually Tipo 117 became known as the Bora.  A prototype appeared in 1969 and finally in 1971 the Bora debuted to the public in Geneva.  Over 550 Boras were made, roughly half of them a 4.7L engines and the second half 4.9L engines.

There is so much more to this car.  Young automotive enthusiasts were awed with many of the Giugiaro design features including the brushed stainless steel roof and the windscreen pillars.  In its own way, the Bora had a very plush interior for a sports car of that era.  The car still stands up well today.  Over the years at Concorso we have seen some sensational examples of the Bora, and they’ve won many awards.
