Introduced in 1969 the Iso Lele model turns 50 years old this year. The Lele was introduced at the 1969 New York International Auto Show.  The Lele’s Marcello Gandini design essentially marked the transition from the 1960s to the 1970s. It was a hybrid car—with the definition of hybrid being something very different in the ‘60s and ‘70s than the definition of today.  Back then a hybrid meant Italian body and styling, with an American engine.

The 2-door coupe was a 2+2 seater.  Iso Rivolta made 285 Leles, only a minority of them reached the North America.  The first 125 Leles came with a Chevy engine. The last 160 Leles were outfitted with a Ford engine.  These powerful, yet these visually appealing and smooth driving cars are a pleasure to drive. The Lele is what one might call, a perfect example of an Italian muscle car.  Watch heads turn when a rarely seen Lele drives by.
